About Me And My Rabbitry

My name is Maria, we live in Christchurch.

I  love and adore most animals.  We currently have, a Rottwiler, Trinity aged 2, a Toy Poodle, Abbie aged 9, 2 Gold Fish. A beauitful cat, Olivia. 5 Chickens, Daphne, Blanch, Myrtle and Harriett, and Henrietta, 1 Bantam  Cricket. 2 Buff Silkie Bantams,  24 Mini Lop Rabbits, 2 Fuzzy Lops  and 10 Jersey Wooly Rabbits,  2 Kune Kune Pigs Wilbur and Doris .

I adore breeding and showing my Rabbits, I am now a Lop Specialist Judge which I really enjoy doing, I am working towards becoming a Fancy Breed Judge.

I first became interested in the mini lop when I had to think of something to get my son for his birthday.  I have always loved animals and thought that a cat would be good, but at this stage my son was not really into cats, so I thought bunnies, they are low maintance and cute.  I got on to a rabbit breeder and went and had a look at all her different types, the Mini Lop is the one that stood out to me as a good size for a child and also so CUTE!!!.

I got him one and then I decided my daughter should really have one, so I got another and this is where it all started.  I got my son a doe and my daughter a buck and before long there were babies, this was so exciting and the kids loved it and it provided them with the knowledge of life and caring and all the things to do with responsibility.

From then on my Rabbitry grew to over 40 rabbits the size of my rabbitry has reduced now to just 6, due to too many other committments.

I have had many different breeds, from Netherland Dwarfs, Cashmere Lops, Fuzzy Lops, Angoras and Dutch but the Mini Lop has always remained my favourite.
