Feeding Tips & Bunnies For Sale
FOOD REQUIREMENTS - For the Mini Lop
Currently I feed my Mini Lops mainly pellets as these have all the nurtients and vitamins that they need for growth and development.
I use Weston Milling Pellets, available at some pet shops. I get mine delivered by Weston Animal Nurtition, they are in Rangiora (20mins out of Chch) on Southbrook Rd. I think they do have other branches in the South Island. The pellets are about 20 dollars for a 25 kg bag, delivered.
I have found them to be the best, both my breeding does and kits eat them. The kits are eating them from about 3 weeks.
I provide the rabbits with fresh (well 100 day old) meadow hay, I give this every 2-3 days.
During the winter months when bunnies need more condition I have started to use a mix: Pellets, Lecurne Chaff, Horse Mix, Sunflower Seed, Rolled Oats, Linseed whole and Mitavite. I mix this all up in the big bucket and feed 1/2 a cup 2-3 times a week, just for a treat and the bunnies LOVE it. Has not increased the bunnies weight so far, just adds shine to coats and a bit of a variety in the dull winter days. Please do not feed this all the time as bunnies will get fat. The base of this mixture is Pellets, not too many seeds, as these a heating. Lecurne Chaff, Horse Mix (smells divine!!!!) and Mitavite available from McMillians ChCh.
The kits will be eating the same as mum, I rarely give anything else, especially in the early weeks, the kits digestive systems are just too imature to cope with lots of different foods and they can often scour and die.
Apple, Carrot, Bananas, Parsley, Groundsal, odd bit of silverbeet only a tiny bit, NEVER lettuce or cabbage, they make the bunnies smelly and scour them. Danelions they love and grass. Remembering that anything but pellets and hay is like lollies to the bunny. So not too often.
ALWAYS PROVIDE PLENTY OF WATER!!!!
